Orthopaedic Question

Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are scheduled each day from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If for any reason you are unable to keep your appointment or are running late, we would appreciate it if you would notify us as soon as possible. While we make every effort to adhere to our schedule, emergencies do occur and appointments sometimes take longer than anticipated. We appreciate your patience in these situations. Please know that we take the time necessary to provide the best possible care to every child.

 

     Dennis P. Devito, M.D.

 
 
Dennis P. Devito graduated Magna cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Devito returned to Duke to complete a two year general and thoracic surgical internship followed by his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. After completing the Harvard pediatric orthopaedic surgery fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital, he joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation.

While at Vanderbilt, Dr. Devito served as Medical Director of the Spina Bifida Clinic, Chairman of the Child Abuse Committee, and Pediatric Orthopaedic Consultant for Metropolitan Nashville General Hospital. He was awarded the Commander’s Certificate of Achievement for his role in establishing a pediatric orthopedic program at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.

While at Vanderbilt, Dr. Devito traveled extensively in Europe studying the Russian-created Ilizarov external fixator and its applications. He brought the system to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center and used it with great success.

Dr. Devito was invited to join the staff at Children's Orthopaedics of Atlanta in 1991. He currently serves as the Director of Multispecialty Clinics at Children's Healthcare of Altanta at Scottish Rite. He is board certified with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Devito's commitment to research is demonstrated by his participation in the International Scoliosis Study Group and numerous presentations at scientific meetings. His topics reflect his interests, spinal disorders including scoliosis, trauma, and limb reconstructive surgery.

A contributor to the five volume series Surgery of the Musculoskeletal System , Dr. Devito authored the chapter "Pelvic Osteotomies for Hip Dysplasia in Young Adults." He is also a contributing author to the American Academy of Surgeons recent monograph series "Operative management of Lower Extremity Fractures in Children" as well as authoring the chapter on children's fractures in Lovell and Winter’s Pediatric Orthopaedics.

Dr. Devito's commitment to orthopaedic education continues with his annual work as an instructor at the Maine Orthopaedic Review and has previously served as the Chairman of the Education Committee for the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America.

Dr. Devito's current research projects include:
  • An investigation of the indications and results of spinal fusion with instrumentation for high-grade spondylolithesis.
  • Effect of pedicle screw fixation on global spinal balance in scoliosis.
  • A review of the indications and results of non-operative treatment of lateral condyle fractures in children.
