Baseball

BaseballEvery spring, over 19 million people will participate in amateur baseball programs worldwide. Many of these players are between the ages of 5-13 and will play in amateur baseball organizations such as Little League, Dizzy Dean, Babe Ruth, or Dixie Youth Baseball to name a few. About one-fourth, or 25% of these kids will pitch for their team and not infrequently will pitch for more than one team in the same season. Kids in warmer southern climates may play baseball starting in January and not end till mid-November, playing over 100 games. This combination of nearly year-round baseball, highly competitive travel teams and vulnerability of the young thrower's shoulder stabilizers and growth plates is a recipe for injury.
