Children’s Orthopaedics of Atlanta (COA) provides treatment for all pediatric and adolescent hip disorders ranging from hip dysplasia, to hip pain secondary to femoracetabular impingement (FAI), Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE) and Legg-Calve Perthes disease. Our team of physicians provides the latest treatment for the following conditions:
- Hip arthroscopy and surgical hip dislocation for hip impingement
- Periacetabular osteotomies for adolescents and adults with hip dysplasia
- Femoral head redirection surgery for SCFE
- Minimally invasive core decompression and hip distraction for treatment in Perthes disease
Many of these procedures are only performed by a handful of surgeons across the country. Dr. Tim Schrader leads our team in the treatment of hip disorders and offers his expertise to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta as being the Medical Director of the Hip Program. In addition, our physicians at COA are actively involved in research to constantly improve the quality of hip care to your child. Current research examples include:
- Outcomes after hip surgery in adolescents and young adults
- Treatment of Perthes disease using core decompression and bone marrow aspirate concentrate
- Assessing femoral head perfusion in patients with SCFE
Dr. Clifton Willimon joined the practice in 2011 and brought with him additional expertise in treating conditions of the hip. Prior to his arrival at COA, Dr. Willimon obtained specialized training at the prestigious Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado. In Vail, he trained under leaders in sports medicine including Doctors Marc Philippon, Richard Steadman, Peter Millett, Robert LaPrade, and William Sterett to learn advanced arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery techniques for the treatment of complex disorders of the hip as well as other areas.
