Jorge A. Fabregas, M.D.
- My Specialties
Dr. Jorge A. Fabregas is a world renowned pediatric orthopedic surgeon, who came to COA from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (the #1 ranked pediatric orthopedic hospital in the US since 2005). Since his arrival, Dr. Fabregas has brought innovative and revolutionary techniques in the treatment and correction of spinal deformity and tumor surgery. His innovative bone grafting techniques and unique approach to spinal deformity correction have drawn many praises in the orthopedic community.
Dr. Fabregas has a passion for teaching and mentoring the next generation of pediatric orthopedic surgeons. Among his many duties, he is the Chief of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at Atlanta Medical Center, and the Residency Director at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. He is currently the President of the Association of Children's Prosthetics and Orthotics Clinics (ACPOC) and a board member of Georgia Pediatric Specialists (GPS).
Dr. Fabregas works with a team of oncologists, orthotists, and physical therapists in order to achieve a comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation plan for tumor and sarcoma patients. This core group meets monthly in a multidisciplinary fashion tailored to the individual child's needs and expectations to achieve the best possible outcome for the patient.
His training in Philadelphia and his time spent collaborating with Shriner's Hospital has allowed Dr. Fabregas to embrace the neuromuscular population in Georgia. The Cerebral Palsy Multidisciplinary Clinic provides the patient and family with an environment in which multiple specialists can jointly focus on the child. He currently is on the Neuromuscular Care Committee, with the hopes of improving care throughout the Children's Healthcare system.
Multiple publications with topics that range from pediatric tumors to limb deformity demonstrate his expertise in wide range of pediatric conditions. Currently, his ongoing research focuses on two distinct areas: pathologic fractures following osteomyelitis and optimizing the function of physician extenders in the office setting.
"Dr. Fab," as his patients call him, prides himself with having a very personable approach to patient care. Expect to see him personally, not a physician assistant or a nurse practitioner, except in only the most dire of circumstances. His approach to patient care, has earned him multiple nominations and selections as "One the top doctors in the US."
As a father of two young children, he has been in "your shoes" when it comes to being a parent of a surgical patient. This gives him a unique perspective and the ability to empathize with his patients and their families. He is often heard saying, "Once your child is the operating room, he is my child and will be treated as such." He truly follows through on this ideal.
His desire for the well-being of his patients along with his attention to detail and emphasis on minimal blood loss has made Dr. Fabregas popular in the Jehovah's Witness community.
Twice a year he returns to Puerto Rico to provide care to underprivileged children in his native land. Dr. Fabregas is fully bilingual, fluent in Spanish and English, making communication a breeze without the need of cumbersome interpreters.
As an avid triathlete, runner, and golfer, Dr. Fabregas understands the importance of functional return of your child to their pre injury state.
