Post-traumatic signifies that a limb becomes crooked due to a previous broken bone. In one circumstance, the bone may heal in a crooked position, a term called "fracture malunion." Other times, the fracture may heal straight, but partially damage the growth area. As the bone continues to grow - rather than growing straight, it will grow crooked. Not all fractures to the growth area (known as the physis) result in permanent growth problems.
